Bursary

Well, I’ve finally got my bursary money. My bank kindly SMSed me at the crack of dawn to tell me this yesterday. And while it made me happy to see the money added to my bank account (more than happy, actually), I would have been just as happy after another hour or so more sleep.

I just wonder what would have happened to me if I never had savings to live on for the year. I mean, a bursary that comes close to the end of the year is still useful, but not as useful as one that arrives when the money’s mostly needed: at the beginning of the year. Late payments of bursaries can seriously hamper anyone without savings or other sources of money, putting those who need it the most at a disadvantage.

Now I just need my examiners’ reports for my MSc to finally come through. I know that they’ve been doing the rounds between the faculty office and my department for the last two weeks or so — and the reports have now been approved by everyone involved. I’m just waiting for them to finally land up on my supervisor’s desk so that I can see them. I’m looking forward to doing whatever corrections have been recommended (hopefully not many), and handing the final thing in. It’s definitely taken me long enough.

I think my parents will be pretty happy to actually get a hard cover copy of it when it’s done.
